Metro using $3.6M federal grant to replace 333 fareboxes

With help from a $3.6 million federal grant, Cincinnati?s bus system will replace all 333 of its fareboxes.

Metro signed a $4.5 million contract with Illinois-based GFI Odyssey Thursday for ?talking? fareboxes. Formula funds from the Federal Transit Administration will cover 80 percent of the cost, while local funds will make up the remaining $900,000, according to a news release.

With the new fareboxes, Metro customers can purchase a monthly pass, a pay-as-you-go ?go*SMART? card, pay for and immediately receive transfer tickets, and get change for up to $20 in the form of a change...
